Living Tiny

Hello, hello! I hope your week (so far) has been grand.
It is the Lunar New Year. We have now entered the Year of the Pig, which is supposed to be a lucrative year. Pigs are good with money. Here's hoping. ;)

Last week, I talked about what lead up to my husband Ray and I purchasing a bus to convert to a tiny home. As I mentioned, we previously owned 2 conventional homes.

After moving out of our house in San Antonio and into a 2 bedroom apartment (1 bedroom which was ours), we had already begun the process of removing unnecessary items from our life. When I say unnecessary, I'm referring to (for example) camping gear we were using every so often and my many, many books. Items like this were taking up space, and we didn't need them every day in our life.

Moving into the bus, we had to purge even more. We had to get rid of clothes. I got rid of all of my journals that I had been writing in since I was 12.  Instead, I took pictures of the pages so I could save them in a way where they didn't take up space. We looked at dishes differently. Do we really need 8 glasses, 6 plates or even 1 wine glass? When you realize that some things have multiple purposes, you can easily have less items.

I love having organization and purpose for every item. I love the structure and cleanliness of my space. My bus is my sanctuary.

I used to spend hours cleaning my house every week. I had a designated day that I cleaned my house where I dusted, mopped, cleaned bathrooms and vacuumed. It would take me at the very least an hour to hour and a half each week. None of the time mentioned includes daily sweeping or washing dishes.

In the bus, I tidy up every day which takes me literally at the most 10 minutes; I vacuum and mop twice a week which again takes less than 30 minutes. Since I feel this way about my space (that it is my sanctuary), I do not want to disrupt the atmosphere. I do not feel the need to buy things because they are on sale or because I REALLY want to read that book. Less impulse buys. (I have to admit, this has been hard for me with books and workout clothes, the two things I lust after the most.)

You know what I love though the most? Since I feel so comfortable here, I breathe so much easier and I feel so much happier. Doesn't everyone want that in their home? Our homes should always feel relaxing and welcoming.

Do you have questions about changing your life to reach some lifelong goals? I would love to chat with you. Next week, I'll talk about the 'what about this' aspect of living on a bus. Like how does our bathroom work...
